A blog for Justin and Isabelle

Finally, I’ve decided to give in and bought a walker for Justin, after being bombarded with millions of comments by family members and strangers (mostly postman or the courier guy) that by not placing Justin in a walker earlier makes him slow at walking now.

Personally, I know it’s not true, from what I’ve read. That’s why I told my friends and relatives not to give me walker as gift when I gave birth to Justin, and I know that I won’t be using it.

But why am I buying it now? Well, Justin is getting heavier and more demanding during his evening walk. He’ll point to places he’d like to go, and wants me to carry him there. With a big tummy load in me, I really tak larat to carry him for too long. So, I place him in a stroller, and he’s very good at climbing out of it and standing up when I push me. I’m worrying that he’s getting used to it and may fall of the stroller someday.

So, I came out with this solution: Baby walker for him to explore outdoor while I’ll be watching closeby. Just in case he falls into the drain!

Too bad, he’s not really interested when I let him try it in the living room just now, even if there’re musical buttons for him to play with. He’d rather crawl or cruise to get around. Hubby’s in KL today, and have no idea that I’ve bought the walker. I think he’s gonna “lecture” me about this bad purchase I’ve made.

  1. I’m also a non-walker supporter :)…but Faythe is on walker sometimes at MIL’s house..I think after sometime they will enjoy it, keep trying

  2. my son also same thing… the walker to him is like a toy… after he looses interest… is history already :(

  3. No walker for Ian, and he is walking very well. Anyway, there is also a believe - better not to allow children walk earlier than 12 months, as the bones are not strong enough yet - can cause ‘O’ shape legs. So, I think all can grow up and walk well without walker when they are ready. Just give him some time. He is just so young anyway.

  4. Jazzmint, I feel better after knowing that I’m not the only one who’s not into walker. Thanks.

Egghead, Luke knows how to walk already mah, no need loh. Yes, Justin also treats it as a toy only. What an expensive one!

Suzette, that’s why I refused to let him sit in a walker before 1 year old, afraid that it will spoil his legs. I know he’s going to be a late walker anyway, so didn’t force him to walk.

  5. My girl was a non-walker baby too and she walk pretty well before 1 year old.

Huh, cannot allow baby to walk before 1 year old? Will develop “O” shape leg? Is it true? Aiya, too late liao, I didn’t know about this fact earlier!

  6. Zara had two walker, 1 inherited, 1 bought 2nd hand (forced to buy). She was on it for a while, then when she started to walk, we let her sit and watch TV. But that too, didn’t last more than 1mth.. All in, I think walker will be used for maybe 2 mths or so, and then it’s history..

I have never heard that you should not let a child walk before 1yr old. I have heard that you should not force them to walk before they are ready. If they are ready, and their bones are strong enough, they’ll walk. Be it before or after 1yr. But if they are not ready, maybe their bones are not, and if you force their weight on them, that potentially can cause bow leg.

    So Jefferene, don’t worry.

  7. I though you want to buy, just ask you dun buy weast money. My kids all just sit for fun later they know we want to keep them in, they dunwan anymore. Some more they will climb out from the baby walker, make scare will fall from the walker.
Dun worry, Justin will walk soon.
