Went to see my gynae after work this evening. It’s not my appointment today, but since I’ll be back to Penang for a few days, I thought may as well get an early check up first before leaving.

From the scanning, I could see that baby’s already turned head down, and the placenta is not blocking the birth canal anymore. I’m really glad that the placenta has finally “moved” up and not blocking the way. My gynae asked if I’m going for natural birth, and I clearly told him that I’ll definitely go for it! Really scare of going for caesarean, even if it’s really common these days.

I forgot to ask him to estimate the baby’s weight. But the head circumference is slightly small to date, but he said there’s nothing to worry about. He told me big head doesn’t mean baby is smart and vice versa. True or not I have no idea, as long as baby’s healthy, I can go for natural birth, I’m more than happy!

Before leaving the clinic, a sales rep from Stem Life approached me and persuaded me to store the stem cells of my baby. I didn’t store it for Justin because I thought it’s not necessary as there’s not history of those disorders which claimed can be cured by stem cells in both my and hubby’s families. BTW, the cost is not cheap, and still have to pay an annual charge for as long as the cells are stored.

Any bloggers who store it? Can share or not?

  4. Yeah, another newborn coming soon! Take care hor!
I didn’t store too…costly lar! Pray hard nothing happen to them!

  5. i’m now in the 8th month preg..n planning to store it but still in consideration…i strongly wan to store it…as my own family having few cancer disease and my hub side also got lil bit here n there…yes when it comes to safe life stem cell work better than anything else..even u hav high insured life policy it may not safe ur life, but stem cell can safe life…still considering many point…if to store i will only go for 1 child…upon registration RM2500, having twins/3/4 RM1000 added for each…annual fee RM 250 (not sure about twins/3/4)…

i think is worth to store…life is too fragile now…

  6. I stored for Ian, and have signed up for my #2 too. I am very kiasu and kiasi lah! :p

  7. Daddy Nick, thanks for the links. I read your post already, will ask you if I need some clarification

MG, thanks for the support. :)

Zara’s mama, that’s what I thought, but I reconsider this time as it’s so popular these days, I don’t want to risk anything by not considering it again.

Jesslyn, it’s the cost that holds me back, really expensive huh?

Judy, you planned to store too? I agree life is fragile, that’s why I’m thinking about this again.

Suzette, you stored too? I really need to talk to my hubby again…

  8. oh good to hear that baby is getting ready :).

i didn’t store stem cell, but I know jefferene & mom2ashley did, do check with them

  9. Well, don’t just simply follow us though I’d encourage you to store. It is just like insurance to me. Conventional life insurance gives you $$ when something bad happen. Stem Cell gives you chance to live again when something bad happen. It really depends on whether you have any spare budget for this or not.

In my case, my employer pays all maternity expenses including all hospital fee (in full). So, I can use the hospital fee we budgetted, for cord blood storage.

If you are going to have financial difficulties if you store cord blood, then forget it. Otherwise, I’d encourage you to store.

Since you didn’t store for justin, then if you store for #2, it can be used for both (touch wood!).

And just like any insurance, after you store this, you’d pray that you’d never need to use it. :)

    Just my 2 cents…

  10. Oh, BTW, i think they have member get member program. If you want, may I refer you, so we can both benefit from it? :)

  11. Sue did… should refer to her :)

  12. I did, with Stem Life too.
Like buying insurance mah, you may not know one day you may need it, since now have an opportunity why waste?
Btw is that Cecilia who approached you, I think Stem Life also have the instalment programme.

  13. glad to hear tat ur baby is healthy… :)
i wanted to store it for my thong thong … but bcos of financial problem…
actually.. it is good for future.. as long as u got the budget…

  14. we 70% will go for it…we still considering…i myself was attend the talk by stem cell, thats why i very clear about it…now only depends on my hub decision…the installment is like that..pay RM750 firt then u will get the stem cell kit for u to bring along when u admit..that kit consist of those equipment (needle, blood pouch..etc) doc needed to collect the blood…aft baby out for 10 days then only u pay the rest…

  15. Hi.i’m 8 mths pregnant. Initially wanted to store the cord blood as well but after reading the following few articals, my view towards storing cord blood has changed. Below are some references that you can read:

    http://www.cord-blood.org/id21.htm

    http://www.cord-blood.org/

    http://www.answers.com/topic/cord-blood-bank

Again, if you are financially sound, by all means go ahead.

  16. I stored for Dina. For Dania, at that time the facility wasn’t around.

I understand that cost can be a factor for some people. I believe they have payment schemes that allow you to make stagerred payments. I look at it as insurance, just in case something happens. If nothing happens, I still consider as money well spent as I took necessary precautions for my kids.

    Hope this info helps.
