I brought along Justin to a Montessori in Canning Garden to ask for more info about the preschool this morning. Once we got there, the kids greeted us good morning and Justin was already warmed up and wanted to join them!

He sat down with the kids playing some blocks and when I told him I’d be in the room talking to the principal, he said ok. He didn’t look for me for more than 15 minutes! When I got out and said that we’re leaving, he refused to go with me. He said “Mommy go home, Justin stay here.”

Wah, I couldn’t believe my ears. Did he know what’s he talking about? It’s only his first time there and he asked me to leave him behind. Suddenly, I felt that my boy has really grown up. I waited beside him, and the principal was also persuading him to leave first and come the next day as I was really in a rush! Finally, he agreed to leave when she said he should have his school bag with his stuffs like the rest of the kids.

However, there’re still some objections at home of sending him to school now. Hubby suggested that we wait until March, and will bring him there again to see if he really wants to enrol. I still have a few preschool to select from, so this hunting process will take some time.

  1. In my case, Ian started with the same reaction in our 3 pre-visits. But when we really sent him to the preschool, he objected. Now, after 2 blissful weeks that he was happy to go, today he requested not to go again… :( But I havent tried out the sticker suggestions you gave. I’m going to buy a nice sticker book this weekend to start it off. But I’m also worried, coz my travel is starting next week too and I won’t be by his side most of the time already. :(

  2. Kids will be encouraged if you explain to them what’s school is all about. Especially when they start to have their own ‘belongings’ to take care (school bags, pencil box, crayon/color pencils etc). One more thing, i am not sure it’s just my kids, or maybe other kids feel the same too. Buy them nice ruler with many of their favorite cartoons printed on it. Sticker book is another trick, but my kids love their rulers then the sticker books (when they are about 2-3 years old).
I know that you and TF is coming tomorrow. Hopefully we can have some short gathering again.
    cheers,
    Wes

  3. Suzette, maybe he still needs some time. That’s why I’m taking this slowly, it’s not in a hurry to send Justin to preschool, but he wants to go to school. So, I’m still hunting and thinking, and will only decide after CNY. After you try out the sticker thing, please let me know if it works. :)

  4. think am only will let my jiejie start next yr, hopefully she will be more ready for kindy then! as now she still has very bad impression on kindy! headache! :P

  5. Wesley, thanks for dropping by my blog! Yes, we’re coming back tomorrow, and will call you and Tannie out. :)

CPM, actually it’s no hurry to enrol preschool, and it depends on individual kid too. If jie jie is not ready, then don’t force her. I’m taking this slowly too, as I don’t want to burden Justin too much.

  6. I think we are in the same dilemma too :(
