New School Next Year
I have no idea when hubby’s going oversea, and when are we going to move back to Penang, but then, I decided to register Justin into the same Kindergarten as Li Wei first. MIL said if the Montessori I enrolled him now is too far from home, and if I’m busy, no one can help me to fetch Justin. She got a point there!
So, MIL drove me to Li Wei’s school just now, seems like po po is more kan cheong about where my boy is gonna study next year. Firstly, it’s not the right school I want for Justin as it’s really academic based, and has lots of children in a class. But never mind, I won’t force Justin, if he can’t pick up, then just drop and change school, as simple as that.
So, when I was in the office….
Teacher: Yes, you can register him now, but only afternoon class got placement…
Me: Ok, I want afternoon session too, same as his cousin, no need to fetch so many times.
Me: *Filling up particulars* So, how many children registered already?
Teacher: 40 over.
Me: What!!! 40 over in a class???
Teacher: Yes, more than 40 in a class, but don’t worry, we have 2 teachers.
Me: Huh? My boy doesn’t know how to write one woh?
Teacher: Then YOU GO BACK AND TEACH HIM FIRST.
Me: No, I’m not going to teach him.
Teacher: What? You are not going to teach him to write?
Me: No, he’s too young for writing, in oversea also children won’t write at such young age. I won’t force him.
Teacher: Then he may not be able to follow woh.
Me: NEVER MIND. *Ai seh, so lan si*
Teacher: Ok, but at least teach him hold a pencil first.
Me: NO. *I think the teacher fed up with me already*
Teacher: Ok…please teach him how to hold a pencil first.
Me: *Stare at her* No, too early, if he wants to write, he will write when he’s ready.
After that, I paid RM100 as registration. Sh*t, I got a feeling that it’s gonna be wasted! Never mind, it settled MIL’s worry for a while. If we really move back, and easily get kindergarten in Penang.
When I was back to the car, I told MIL that there are 40 over children in a class. She said, “Huh, like that you also register?”
Wa lau!!! Who asked me to register in the first place!!!!
Ok, I said, “Never mind, if can pick up in the class, ok, if cannot, just drop and change school, small matter.”
Anyway, it all depends on parents’ attitude. As long as I’m not kiasu, I don’t mind him being slow in class, he likes the school, then it’s enough already.

It’s sad that there are still many schools/kindies around that have these kind of attitude and don’t have child development appropriate syllabus.

Dragonmummy, I really feel that mummies like us are minority, I was so shocked to hear that already got 40 over children registered. No wonder MIL is so kan cheong, I thot can take my time and see how he goes. Gee, why register so early huh? Maybe it’s a popular kindy.
Sasha, definitely cannot concentrate, definitely will be lots of homework as the teachers expect mothers to teach at home or go tuition. Siao! Never mind, next year I go talk to the teacher about my son’s homework do no do also can want, don’t force him. See, I may be the only siao mummy doing that!
WMD, I think mothers with common sense will also act the same as me. Justin is only 3 by school starts. How to write???? I know my boy, he’s not ready.
Edward, yes, I’m interested.
Welcome to my blog.

Wah Lau…. Nowadays the kids also need to teach to behave like kiasu…everything need to be no 1…what the f***. this is not real education. Sound like production line than school.

40 in a class is quite a lot, don’t you have other options?

Hi,
If you happend to change your mind to teach Justin. What you need to do to teach him to hold a pencil or write maybe…the steps is draw a big apple, big shirt or some big picture, get him to hold the crayon and color it(one color only). Repeat this step for few weeks. Until than, he should be ready to grab hold of a pencil. Writing wise, let the school teach him loh!!!

Mellon, how you know how sucks Malaysian education is!!!
Vien, that’s why I have a feeling I’m gonna waste the registration fee. Really lah, I still feel like shopping around for other schools.
HL, actually, I know I can do that. But he’s not ready. He has crayons, drawing pad, colouring books and etc at home, but he will only scribble for a few seconds and runs away. He prefers puzzles and toys, those hands on way of learning. That’s why I enrolled him into Montessori. Well, I’ll lead him when he’s ready! Thanks for the suggestion and welcome to my blog.
Leng, that’s why teachers give lots of homework. They know they can’t teach everyone, so they expect children to do homework at home and parents or tuition teacher to guide them. Sigh, I’m so sad looking at how the way children learn these days. It’s only Kindergarten, when he enrolls into primary, my headache becomes worse!
