Happy Chinese New Year!!!
Buckle Up
A few days ago, I chatted with my SIL who’s interested to know about car seat. My 2-year-old niece has never been buckled up in the car, and if it’s not due to the recent enforcement which requires the back passengers to buckle up, my SIL said she won’t even want to get a car seat! *slap head* But then, they always go out with maid la, got someone to carry and take care of baby mah…Not like us, we have to do everything on our own!!!
I’m one of those parents who encourage babies and children to be buckled up in car seat. In fact, I bought Justin’s first car seat before he was born, when I was expecting him. I thought of using it upon checking out from the hospital, and you won’t believe how discouraging MIL was. She said the car seat was bad for newborn’s back, but actually, the infant car seat is meant for newborn babies above 2.5kg, so it’s suitable for babies. Anyway, that’s Justin first car ride, and I couldn’t do much to argue with her. Not only about car seat, but about breastfeeding! LOL!
Once the babies are used to their car seats, it’s like an habit to them. Both our kids are using the boaster seats now, but Isabelle refuses to put the strap in front of her chest as she said she can’t breathe well and it’s bothering her neck. *roll eyes* Nonetheless, she’s still being buckled up at the waist, and she can’t move out of her seat.
With hubby’s family members flying over here tomorrow, we need to have 3 cars to pick them up at the airport. But I already warned hubby that our car seats will not be taken out from our car. I know that both our kids will be jumping here and there in the car, and they will probably play and fight with their cousins too.
Since it’s an MPV, we can still have 2 or 3 passengers in, or just place the luggage at the back. I won’t tolerate my kids sitting in the car without the boaster seats as we are leaving for Pattaya directly from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Not to mention that my hubby is not a careful driver, and he likes to speed!!! He will probably speed like h*ll tryin to catch up with BIL who drives faster than him. *slap head again*
So, it’s great to hear that back passengers are required to buckle up in Malaysia. But then, please get car seat or boaster seats for kids, if they are below 12 (if I’m not mistaken, 12 should be the minimum age?). The price is just like buying 5 pairs (or more) of children’s Nike shoes la…
Last Weekend and Hubby’s Birthday…
I try to update this blog daily, but I was so caught up yesterday and I didn’t have time to blog! How rare huh? LOL!
We had a great weekend, after staying at home for 2 days! Here’s a summary of what we did last weekend…

We watched Bedtime Stories (not that nice la…)

Have fun at kiddyland

Mommy did some last minute CNY shopping at Siam Paragon and Platinum Fashion Mall while…

Hubby brought the kids for tuk tuk ride and…

… their first MRT ride in Bangkok city, but Isabelle was too tired to enjoy it. See for yourself. LOL!
It’s hubby’s birthday yesterday, and this year, I REMEMBERED! LOL! We didn’t have any special celebration but just dinner with FIL and BIL’s family. Then, we went back home for cake cutting. Hubby has always preferred a simple cake cutting than a splashing party.

Hubby’s birthday cake, with candle wax on it! LOL! Got it removed before cutting the cake though…
Since hubby’s family will be flying over to Bangkok this CNY, we will be busy with our guests again. Anyway, it’s nice to have close family members here to celebrate CNY with us. I hope that everyone has done your last minute CNY shopping ya?
Eat…Eat…Eat…
As you know? We hardly stay at home, but today is an exception. I found that I eat more at home, maybe because food is accessible all the time? Gosh, I need some Leptorexin liao. Besides that, I had more coffee too! Now, my Nescafe and Birdy is all gone from the cabinet.
Not only me, my kids eat more fruits today, and I don’t think there’s much food left for their bentos tomorrow. So, they might have to take ta pau food, if they are willing to. My 2 kids only stick to a few types of food when we eat out, even if we have been here for 9 months.
But right now, I will bring them to the playground. It’s time to sweat it out, if we can in this cool evening…
TV Freaks
We have no TV policy on school days, and it’s been working very well for months. But when there is a chance of not going to school or going out, both Justin and Isabelle want to watch as much as possible. Lately, they are into Power Rangers. They not only watch the DVDs, but they “act” like one too! Even if they can’t understand all the dialogs in Thai, they don’t seem to be bothered about it.
I’m not worried about Isabelle, but Justin is getting very “action packed” after exposing to Power Rangers. He can jump from the table to sofa to the window drill and on anything. I don’t want him to get hurt, so I have to scream my lungs out asking him to stop, stop and stop! Maybe he won’t get hurt, but he might accidentally kick Isabelle. We don’t want to get any Lexington personal injury lawyer, ok?
When both of them know that they don’t have to go to school today, they were so excited. They didn’t want to go to the office but just wanted to stay at home. From the moment they woke up, the TV was on until now! Wah seh…They fully optimized their time on the idiot box.
I know that they will surely ask for TV when they get up from their naps later. So, I better prepare their tea now and after they finish their meals, I will rush them out to the playground. Cannot let them watch like that leh…Too much Power Rangers *blaming hubby who bought so many Power Rangers CDs…*
It’s Cold Here…
It’s my first winter in Bangkok and previously, we only came here once in a while, and we didn’t stay longer than 10 days. This time, I can really experience the changes in seasons, even if it’s not as significant as other countries, but you can really feel the coldness and windy weather here in Bangkok.
For the past few days, the temperature dropped further. When I wake up in the morning, I have to put on my trackpants and jacket before I get myself busy in the kitchen. The tap water is so cold!!! But what to do? I don’t have a maid to help me with breakfast and my kids’ bentos. Sigh…
Isabelle doesn’t like to be covered with blanket since she’s a baby. It’s easier with Justin as he will cover himself if he feels cold now. But for Isabelle, we have to force her, or wait until she’s asleep. All of us stopped using the air-conditioning, but only the fan and windows at night. The cool air is good enough, and you really need to get yourself cosy in your blankets! But our girl hoh, she can really tahan. On some nights, she only wants to dress in short sleeves pajamas only. *slap head* Luckily, she hardly gets sick and until now, she’s the strongest of all of us. I’m having some coughing, Justin has running nose once in a while, and hubby caught a flu not long ago. So, our bodies are weaker now.
I started packing jackets for the kids to school since winter started, but now, I want them to put the jackets on when we leave the house. It’s easier with Justin, but Isabelle refused to wear her jackets. Sometimes, she’s the only kid without a jacket in her class! Aiyo…Later the teachers think I forgot to pack jacket for her. LOL!
The weather is definitely colder in northern Thailand as Chiang Rai had already declared cold spell disaster zone, and you can see frost and frozen dews in the morning! It sounds great but not for those poor people who can’t afford thicker clothing or blankets at night.
Even if Bangkok is not as cold or snowing like other parts of the world, I quite like winter in Thailand. Let’s enjoy winter, for as long as it can be this time.
Isabelle Got “Promoted”
I think hubby and I are quite blur about our kids’ schooling issues. We can’t read the school calendar, the weekly menu, the coming activities and events and sometimes, even our kids’ daily reports. The teachers will write about the kids everyday in their booklets, and mostly it’s just something simple like “She sleeps well, eats well and happy.” Their English is very simple, as long as I can understand what they mean, I don’t ask much about my kids. But sometimes, they wrote in Thai, and I also kong kong what are they about.
2 weeks ago, Isabelle told me that “Mommy, I go to upstairs classroom. Write and read upstairs already.” I thought she meant by changing classrooms between classes, as sometimes the kids go to another room for English, or Music and etc. So, I didn’t ask more about this. Furthermore, when hubby and I dropped the kids at school, we only arrived there at school assembly and we just brought the kids to their lines (assuming that Isabelle still queued up with her old classmates), dropped their bags at the classroom (mistakenly placed Isabelle’s bag in the WRONG classroom for 2 weeks) and left. Can you imagine that? For 2 weeks!!! How blur the parents are la…
Then today, we arrived at school really late. The school assembly was over, so we brought the kids to the classroom. When I dropped Isabelle at her ex-classroom, the teacher told me that she’s promoted to another 2 years old class already. The previous class was too “baby” for her now. She will join the “mature” 2 years old in another classroom upstairs. Then my gal said, “Mommy, my classroom upstairs already.”
Aiyo, so embarrassing. Hubby came to us and he also kong kong why Isabelle changed class. LOL! Thus, we brought her to the classroom at the 1st floor and I could see the difference between the children. I mean those in the new class and those in the previous class. The children here are more developed and there are only 2 teachers involved. The previous class has more helpers, and there is a nanny for the quadruplets too. I guess Isabelle understands Thai better now, so she got “promoted”.
Anyway, both hubby and I are happy to see her progress at school, even if we are the last persons to know that she got promoted.
Kids Sports Day & Children’s Day in Thailand
Children’s Day is celebrated on the 2nd Saturday of January in Thailand, and in conjunction of Children’s Day, my kids’ school organized Sports Day on Friday, and parents were invited to attend.
All of us was in Green team and our opposition team is Red. Not only children, parents and teachers were advised to dress in their team colors too. For this special day, I purposely bought myself and Isabelle a green tee each as I couldn’t find any green tees in our closets! Both of us are not really fond of green, you see…I even had to coax Isabelle to put on the green tee, which she refused the whole morning.
We arrived slightly late at school, and the praying event had already started.

The monks came to school for praying session.
There is always free flow of food offered by the school, if there is any event. But I was so surprised to see one of the tables full of junks!!! But then again, it’s Children’s Day mah, so close one eye la…

A table full of junk food, and Justin and Isabelle helped themselves to the food.
After that, all of us gathered at the field. The children were asked to queue up for the parade, which they had been practicing for weeks. But hoh, our little Justin made up a big fuss that he didn’t want to join in the parade. That fella cried leh!!! Aiyo…

The children had a parade in the mooban (the school is located in a closed community)

Poor Isabelle had to walk alone as her partner, the koh koh, refused to join in the parade and only wanted daddy. *Slap head*
After awhile, hubby managed to convince Justin to join in and all of us walked together with the kids. Actually, all parents walked by the side of their kids.

Friendly neighbors cheered for the kids

A few policemen helped to ensure that the roads were free of any vehicles, and stray dogs!

All dogs were tied behind gates. Very thoughtful neighbors huh?

Our kids got tired before the parade was over. Really really walked a long way la…*mommy was tired too and there were no Oak trees for her to hide in the shade*

Justin’s favorite teacher, Teacher Richard dressed all in RED from top to shoes. He even posed for my camera. LOL!

The kids got hungry after the parade! So, they makan first.
After the parade and the cheerleader dance, the sports events started. The first event was carried out by the little 2 years old, including Isabelle.

She was still munching on her keropok when her teacher asked her to queue up for the event. I offered to hold for her first, but she refused to pass the keropok to me!

Not only that, she offered her friend a bite. LOL!
Isabelle’s team had 4 members. They had to take turn running to the other end and pour water into the tumbler. When the whistle was blown, she was still munching on her keropok! *slap head*

Isabelle in action. Pouring water is sap sap sui for her la, she does this almost everyday at bath time.
The green team won, so Isabelle got her first medal in “sports”.

I got a gold medal!
Justin took part in the tricycle match. There were a few kids in his team too, but I can’t remember how many. His team didn’t win, but it’s ok, as the kids were given silver medals as well. There were only 2 teams mah…:P

Justin in action, he’s riding the blue tricycle.
Some parents took part in a few events, but hubby and I preferred to watch the games. You know? We have never thought that kids sports day can be so much fun. LOL!

My favorite event was the eating competition. I think they should put Isabelle in. LOL!
The green team lost though, with only 2 points behind. But nonetheless, we had a lot of fun watching the games and seeing our kids taking part. But if you ask Isabelle what she really likes about Sports Day, I can assure you that it’s not her gold medal, but the free flow of junks!!!

I lost track of how much she ate that morning…sigh…
